Smart Money Concepts (SMC), explained without the hype

08 Jul 2026 7 min read

Smart Money Concepts (SMC) is a framework for reading price through the lens of where large orders are likely to sit. Stripped of the hype, it is really just disciplined market-structure analysis with a focus on liquidity.

The core ideas

  • Market structure: higher highs/lows, breaks of structure, and shifts
  • Liquidity: where clusters of stops are likely to rest
  • Order blocks and imbalances as areas of interest
  • Premium vs discount pricing within a range

Why it works — and where it doesn't

SMC gives you a repeatable way to mark a chart and define bias. It is not a crystal ball. Treat every zone as a place to look for confirmation, not a guarantee, and always define your invalidation.
